Depart USA to South Africa, probably in the late evening on Ethiopian Airlines.

Tuesday, July 31 – Cape Town, South Africa

Arrive in Cape Town, South Africa, one of the world’s most beautifully located cities.  Visit the beautiful V & A Waterfront with shops, restaurants, and the excellent Two Oceans Aquarium.  Settle in to a centrally located hotel for four nights in Cape Town. 

Cape Town Day #2

Wednesday, August 1 – Cape Town

Take a bus and walking tour of Cape Town to get an overview of the city.  Enjoy the strikingly scenic coastline around Camp’s Bay.  Visit District Six Museum, which documents the injustices of apartheid.   Option to hike to the top of Lion’s Head or Signal Hill for great views (weather dependent).  Night #2 in Cape Town. 

Cape Town Day #3

Thursday, August 2 – Cape Town

Option to take a boat to Robben Island, the “Alcatraz” of Africa where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned and now a UNESCO world heritage site.  Great views of Cape Town from the boat, weather permitting.   Afternoon is free for  a wine tasting at Groot Constantia wine estate or to visit beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. 

Cape Town Day #4

Friday, August 3 – Cape Town

Many optional activities this day: a trip to the Cape of Good Hope, observing native wildlife (especially ostriches) and spectacular coastline; watch African penguins in their native habitat at Boulders Beach.  Option to go shark cage diving in Gansbaai. 

Depart Cape Town

Saturday, August 4 – Cape Town, South Africa – Windhoek, Namibia

Depart South Africa to Windhoek, Namibia or to the USA or elsewhere.
