San Diego Mesa College, in association with GeoTours, will host this tour of Iceland, one of the most beautiful countries of the world. Led by Mesa College geology professor Don Barrie, the tour will make a complete circuit of the island with a private tour bus, enjoying the spectacular waterfalls, glaciers, icebergs, volcanoes, geysers, hot springs, beaches, lakes, fjords, and wildlife.
Dates are June 10 – 19, 2018, and the cost is $2590 for lodging, private tour bus, entries/activities, and some meals.

Sunday June 10, 2018 – Depart USA
Monday June 11 – Reykjavik
Arrive in Iceland and visit Reykjavik: Hallgrimskirkja church tower, with great views over the city. Take a walking tour of Reykjavik to see the harbor, lakes, and city center. Two nights in Laugarvatn.
Tuesday June 12 – Golden Circle
See some of Iceland’s top highlights: Strokkur Geyser, exploding every few minutes, beautiful Gullfoss waterfalls, Kerio volcanic crater with a lake inside, and Pingvellir National Park where the North American plate is pulling apart from the Eurasian plate.
Wednesday June 13 – Reykjavik to Vatnajokull National Park
Visit two magnificent waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss (which you can walk behind) & thundering Skogafoss. See traditional Icelandic houses with turf roofs at Skogar Folk Museum. Visit the black sand beach and volcanic cliffs at Reynisfjara. Two nights near Vatnajokull National Park.
Thursday June 14 – Vatnajokull National Park
Full day in the Skaftafell section of Vatnajokull National Park with great hiking opportunities to see glaciers, mountains, and waterfalls. See Svinafell Glacier up close with a short walk to the front of the glacier. Option to go on a professionally-guided glacier hike (extra cost of $90). Another option is to visit Ingolfshofdi Nature Reserve to see puffins and other birds (extra cost of $70)
Friday June 15 – Vatnajokull to Berunes
Visit Fjallsarlon and Jokulsarlon, lagoons with icebergs in front of a massive glacier. One night in Berunes at a guesthouse on a fjord.
Saturday June 16 – Berunes to Myvatn
Scenic drive along Berunes Fjord. Marvel at Dettifoss, Europe’s largest waterfall in volume. Easy hike to lovely Selfoss waterfall. Dinner stop in the beautiful fishing village of Husavik. Two nights in the Myvatn area.
Sunday June 17 – Lake Myvatn area
A day for geological wonders: beautiful Godafoss waterfalls (“God’s Falls”), Dimmuborgir lava towers and lava tube, Krafla volcano with a beautiful crater lake, and Hverir bubbling mud pits and fumaroles.
Monday June 18 – Myvatn to Akureyri to Reykjavik
Visit Akureyri, Iceland’s 2nd largest city with beautiful botanical gardens. Continue to Reykjavik for final night. .
Tuesday June 19 – Blue Lagoon and Return flight to USA
Visit the Blue Lagoon to soak in the aquamarine-colored geothermal waters. Depart Reykjavik for USA in the afternoon, arriving the same day.
